The 2023 Jeep Cherokee is a compact crossover SUV based on the KL generation of Jeep's long-running nameplate. The KL generation debuted in 2014, with facelifts in 2019 and 2022. For 2023, the Cherokee lineup has been massively simplified to just two trims. Jeep has dropped the base variant, which featured front-wheel-drive, and the V6 engine is also gone from the range. The Altitude Lux variant also receives more tech, including standard leather seats, a heated steering wheel, and a remote engine start function.

The 2023 Cherokee's cabin can seat up to five adults and offers a passenger cabin volume of 101 cubic feet. This is on par for the class, and the cabin doesn’t feel dated despite the model being several years old. There’s also a trunk volume of 26 cubic feet with the rear seats deployed, and they can be folded in a 60/40 split for up to 57 cubic feet of space. An optional CommandView® panoramic sunroof is offered.
Every 2023 Cherokee comes standard with a Jeep air filtration system, dual-zone climate control, and an 8.4-inch touch-screen infotainment system that runs the latest uConnect software. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are supported across the range. A six-speaker system is standard. There’s also a nifty Off Road Pages feature, which displays helpful information on the infotainment screen, such as coolant, oil and transmission temperatures, suspension height, and even wheel articulation.
Options for the 2023 Cherokee include a heated steering wheel (standard on Altitude Lux), heated and ventilated front seats, a premium 506-watt Alpine sound system with an 8-inch subwoofer, and power-adjustable front seats.
The 2023 Cherokee still looks fresh and purposeful, despite the design being several years old. It’s got premium LED headlamps, tail lamps and LED running lamps, and roof rails to add a bit of style plus practicality. Altitude Lux variants roll on gloss black 18-inch alloy wheels. The Trailhawk variants receive 17-inch painted diamond-cut wheels that can be optioned in black if desired. At the rear, a hands-free power liftgate eases loading and unloading activities. There’s also a capless fuel filler.

For 2023, Jeep has dropped the V6 engine and the entry-level front-wheel-drive variant. All 2023 Cherokee models come with standard all-wheel drive.
The Altitude Lux trim features a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. According to Jeep, this engine offers fuel consumption figures of 21 MPG city and 29 MPG highway. It's also rated to tow up to 2,000 pounds.
The Trailhawk trim features a brawnier 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. It matches the 2.4-liter engine on fuel consumption figures and offers a maximum towing capacity of 4,000 pounds.
Both trim levels come with a nine-speed automatic transmission and the all-wheel-drive system, Jeep Active Drive 4x4. However, the Trailhawk receives driveshaft locks and low-range capabilities as well. You’ll also like the additional ground clearance and beefier tires that it brings as standard.
